Meet 顎 (ago / jaw), my suburitō, which is a heavy wooden training sword. She is pictured above her sister 舌 (shita / tongue). This particular style of suburitō is known as a "Musashi oar." Master swordsman Miyamoto Musashi supposedly carved a wooden sword out of a boat oar as he traveled to a duel with Sasaki Kojiro, and whom he defeated.
Suburitō are primarily used to practice swings. I've started sessions that are slow and brief, initially focusing on smooth and controlled movements.
