NOW YOU'RE TALKING BANANAS
What does one banana
say to another?
We don’t know.
We cannot parse ethylene
although we translate
it into terms
of maturation and mission—
notions we do know.
-
The cedars of Lebanon
clap their hands
and we read it
as a hymn of praise
although they may be
waving us away
as we block their view
of the rising sun.
-
The whales can hear
the songs of the stars
the flowers listen
to the whispers
of the trees as they
proclaim new life
to one another
while our monkey minds
see naught
hear nothing
speak into the void.
