NAPOWRIMO #19

Read Write Poem NaPoWriMo Prompt #19 - Light Bulb Moments

---

ILLUMI

The rings of outer darkness
are filled with lamentations,
the gnashing of teeth.

We keep the lamps filled with whale oil,
boiled out from thick slabs of blubber,
hold the night at bay.

We deplete the ocean populations,
garbage gyres left spinning in the wake,
plot and plan our next steps.

We strip the earth of metal and mineral,
our teeth and eyes flash fluorescent,
our hands twitch, our faces writhe.

Give us more, we plead of the earth,
even as she weeps over her brother,
calls forth greater darkness.

We keep our houses filled with cheap currents,
build temples to Uranium,
bend at the waist as we loose our bowels.

I played with the spirit of the prompt. For the most part, my poems are not about personal exposure, even when they may appear to be such. Therefore, I bent the prompt.
