MIDDEN

i.

something has passed

a breath through pursed parched lips
a breath through rows of straining gills

gristle and bone through
a fist of water

stone rolled away
from what was never an empty tomb

ii.

a rift opened within me
     (enough to allow a beak)

     (that’s all it takes)
and in She swam
