WRITING to the MUSIC
of YO LA TENGO

And the glitter is gone
once begins the bass drum—

the pen’s off and writing
to the squall and wail

of Ira wrestling his guitar
frets and strings and pickups

the hypnotic drone and drive
of throbbing bass, rhythmic percussion.

(The roar of pure silence
former ground beneath my feet

departs in a quick wave
of sonic noise and pulse

that continues for fifteen minutes
of rare glory, joy, hope.)
